![]() ![]() There are those who use LucidLink for the Project for this reason, as it doesn't involve syncing, and then they use Resilio Sync for the media. There are some caveats because it's possible for two users to open the same bin before the lock files manage to sync between machines, that sort of thing. Those are just files as far as Resilio Sync is concerned, and they'll get synced. lck files for bins to do the locking when it is running collaborative mode (which Mimiq enables). ![]() Actually Mimiq doesn't interact with Resilio Sync at all. Want more speed - buy a larger QNAP or Synology with more drives. Add $200 per computer for the Hedge Mimiq licenses, and now you have an equivalent system. Plug the QNAP 10G port into a small 8 port 10G switch (about $800), and plug each computer's 10G Ethernet port into that switch, and now you have a working system. Each 18 TB drive on Amazon is about $320. Install eight Seagate EXOS 18 TB drives in there, in a RAID 6 configuration, and now you have 108TB of usable storage. ![]() To answer Mamomimoni's question - "what can you get that's comparable" - a small 8 bay QNAP TVS-h1288X is $2750. And with the addition of Mimiq software to your Media Composer workstations, you can have a very low cost AVID shared storage system, without having to spend the money for these other systems. But many people choose products from QNAP and Synology because of their very low cost. There are lots of companies that make wonderful shared storage systems, that work with AVID Media Composer, that do not require programs like Mimiq - these include Facilis HUB, EditShare, Studio Network Solutions EVO, and Tiger Technology (Tiger Store). Of course, the new AVID Nexis F2 and F5 will be more expensive. For those wondering about price, it's about $200 per Media Composer.Īs for the AVID Nexis - you can get an AVID Nexis for under $16,000. Because of IBC, I have not personally spoken with the guys at Hedge, but I will do so this week. They are buying up all the important small programs, like EditReady, ScopeBox, Canister - and now Mimiq. There is another product I have tried recently, that costs more than Mimiq - it's Osiris from Projective.io in Germany. Mimiq was even what Lumaforge Jellyfish was recommending for AVID users, using the Jellyfish. It appears that they now have Mimiq working for Apple M1 based machines (Indiestor only had it working for Intel based Macs). I was surprised (but I guess not that surprised) that Hedge bought this product. As far as Media Composer was concerned, the computer thought it was connected to an AVID Nexis. I install a ton of QNAP and Synology systems, and all the AVID Media Composers I used, all used Indiestor Mimiq. I can assure you that Mimiq is a wonderful program. Looking for something more local?
